For most Christians we understand our obligation to live our faith as a good testimony to those around us.

The difficulty arises in verbalizing our faith in Jesus Christ. It is even more challenging to present Jesus as that Savior everyone needs. This is called witnessing.

As we continue to study the life of Jesus it might be helpful to consider how he interacted with people. How did Jesus meet people? Where did he meet them? How did he connect with them? Did he go after prospects or confront them? What happened in the conversation? How did Jesus bring about a decision?

Interestingly enough, Jesus' family did not immediately respond to his witness even though it included signs and wonders to back up his claims. His brothers and sisters simply would not believe that their own brother was in fact the Son of God.

The most difficult witnessing is to our own family members, the ones we love the most. Don't be discouraged. Take extra care to be a credible witness. Jesus's siblings rejected him in spite of his words and works though eventually we know of two brothers, James and Jude, who did believe in him. We learn from Jesus that the person who hears the gospel bears the responsibility for responding in faith, while the person who shares the gospel bears responsibility for communicating with faithfulness.

Jesus made it very clear that it was the responsibility of ALL believers to be wtnessing believers. How many of us are prepared to present Jesus to an inquirer? Learn from Jesus how he witnessed to those around him, then trust him that, as we lift him up, Jesus will draw people to himself.

Thinking it over . . .
When Jesus met the woman of Samaria what common everyday event did Jesus use as an opportunity for witnessing? How did Jesus make himself available for this conversation? How do you (or, how can you) create opportunities to begin a converation about Jesus? How did Jesus begin the conversation on the level of the woman's immediate interest? How has a friend or a colleague's special interest helped you share Jesus with them?

What was the response? How effective was Jesus approach of confronting the Samaritan woman about her spiritual condition? What was the result?

If a friend or colleague asked you about your faith in Jesus would you be prepared to lead them to faith in Christ? Do you feel a responsibility for witnessing to others about your faith in Jesus Christ? Why or why

not? What do you think hinders your wintessing? (List them.)

What can you do to overcome your hinerances? What is one thing you have learned from Jesus' example that you will apply in your own witnessing?
